Kondagaon: Security forces on Monday neutralised a Naxal in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district.
According to reports, the encounter broke out in the jungles near Honhed village under the Keshkal police station limits yesterday evening.
The police had reportedly received information about Naxal activity in the jungle areas, following which a joint team of the Kondagaon and Kanker District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched a search operation.
At around 5-6 pm, Naxals reportedly opened fire at the security forces, following which they retaliated, in which a male Naxal was killed. Following his death, the other Naxals reportedly fled from the spot.
After the nearly four-hour-long encounter, the security forces conducted a search operation throughout the night in areas surrounding the encounter spot.
A .303 rifle and a large number of daily items belonging to the Naxals were recovered.
It is being suspected that around 50-60 Naxals were present in the area, based on the huge quantity of items recovered.
Earlier on August 9, four Naxals, two of them carrying cash rewards, had surrendered before the Kondagaon police superintendent. It is being suspected that the encounter was the Naxals' response to the above development.
