Gariaband: Around 17 villages in the state of Chhattisgarh are dealing with erosion on an unprecedented scale, as Tel river engulfs their village and farmland forcing them to flee.
The residents, mostly farmers, have witnessed massive river erosion on the banks of Tel and are left with no other livelihood options.
"Around 250-300 acres of farming space have been lost due to erosion," a farmer reckoned.
Besides, the district and state administration has failed to find a permanent solution to their issues.
"The situation is terrifying. We are in search of work outside the village. Nature has left us poorer," another farmer said.
The scenario affects nearly 400 farmers, who depend solely on agriculture as their source of income.
At the same time, the government officials are claiming to provide them with the necessary support. However, the farmers are wary of false promises, which has pushed them towards poverty.
Meanwhile, the district collector has assured that data will be collected and a study will be done to solve the crisis.
