Gariyaband (Chhattisgarh): Baldi Bai, a 92-year-old woman, renowned as poster lady of Congress on Thursday, died from cardiac arrest after recovering from Covid-19 in Gariyaband of Chhattisgarh.
Dr. NR Navaratna, CMHO of Health Department said that after she tested Covid-positive on April 25, her treatment was going on in a hospital in Mekahara of Raipur. After 10 days of treatment, her health condition was stable and she tested negative, after doing her primary checkup at Gariaband District Hospital she was sent to Kulhadi Ghat. But suddenly around 8 o'clock on Thursday morning, her health deteriorated and she died due to cardiac arrest.

Baldi Bai remained a memorable woman for Congress as she got the opportunity to dine with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in 1985 during their visit to Kulhadi village.

Her husband and son had died due to grim poverty and she has been earning her livelihood by weaving bamboo baskets. She lives 75 kilometers away from the district headquarters. Her house made of straw and mud is in a dilapidated condition.
