Korba (Chhattisgarh): In what is believed to be the smallest Quran in Chhattisgarh, a thumb-sized miniature version of the holy book can be found carefully preserved in a museum in Korba.
The tiny religious text, as big as a human thumb, can be found at the district archaeological museum in the city.
According to the museum guide Hari Singh Kshatriya, the Quran measures just 2 centimetres in length, 2.5 cm in width, and 0.5 cm in thickness.
Kshatriya said that he was handed over the Quran five years ago, prior to which it was kept preserved at the Municipal Corporation's Library at Gitanjali Bhavan for around 25 years.
He said that Dr Shireen Lakhe, who was the librarian at Gitanjali Bhavan, had got the Quran as a gift from a friend of his in Delhi.
However, Kshatriya is unsure about how old the holy book actually is.
"The writings are so small that one has to use a magnifying lens to read. The entire book is written in Arabic and is at least 30 years old," he said, adding that the book contains 114 chapters, and 6,236 ayats (verses).
In order to protect the book from dust, Kshatriya has preserved it inside a box.
He said that the Quran has gained immense popularity, and tourists from faraway places visit the museum to catch a glimpse of the holy book.
