Kanker (Chhattisgarh): Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district dropped pamphlets and put up banners announcing that July 28 to August 3 will be observed as 'Martyrs' Week' in remembrance of the four Naxals that were killed in an encounter earlier this year.
According to reports, a large number of pamphlets were found just three kilometres away from the Pankhajur police station. The Naxals also reportedly put up banners in the area.
In the banners, the Naxals mentioned the 'martyrdom' of the four cadres that were killed in the Rajnandgaon encounter earlier in May this year.
The banners, signed by banned outfit CPI (Maoist) read that July 28 to August 3 would be observed as 'Martyrs' Week' in remembrance of the four killed cadres.
Earlier on Monday, Naxals had also dropped pamphlets in Antagarh block's Tadoki. They even put up banners on the road from Pankhajur to Kapsi, establishing their presence in the area.
In wake of the banners and pamphlets, the local police and security forces are on alert to foil the Naxals' plans.
Earlier in May this year, four wanted Naxals, including two women - who all carried rewards on their heads, were killed in an exchange of fire in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh.
A police official, Sub Inspector Shyam Kishore Sharma (36), who sustained bullet injuries in the encounter, died while being shifted to hospital.

Among the gunned down cadres, Ashok Rainu (35) was a member of Rajnandgaon-Kanker border division committee who was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head. His accomplice Krishna Nareti (26), an area committee member, was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head.
The women cadres were identified as Savita Salame and Parmila, both members of Mohla-Aundhi joint LOS (local organisation squad) and carried rewards of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads.
