Naxals abduct parents of policeman in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada

Dantewada Superintendent of Police, Abhishek Pallav on Tuesday informed that Naxals have abducted the parents of a policeman in Gumiyapal area of Chhattisgarh on Monday. Earlier, one assistant police constable was killed by Naxals at his residence in the Bijapur district's Jangla village.

Dantewada: Naxals have abducted parents of a policeman in Dantewada's Gumiyapal last night, the police said.

"Naxals abducted parents of a policeman in Gumiyapal last night," said Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav.

Last week, one assistant constable lost his life after Naxals attacked the personnel at his residence in the Bijapur district's Jangla village.

The incident took place in Maatwada village under Jangla police station limits late Wednesday night when assistant constable Somaru Poyam was at home on medical leave, Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.

Poyam, who was posted at Farsegarh police station in the district, was on medical leave since June 10, he said.

As per preliminary information, nearly 12 Naxals stormed into the policeman's house and brutally attacked him with an axe and bow and arrows, he said.

When his parents tried to intervene in a bid to save Poyam, the rebels targeted them also, leaving the two injured, he said.

The assistant constable died on the spot, he said. Soon after being alerted about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot.

The body was sent to a hospital in Bhairamgarh town for postmortem, the official said. Poyam's parents were admitted to a hospital, he said, adding that their condition was reported to be out of danger.
