Naxalites block Orchha Abujhmad-Narayanpur road by felling trees on it; put up posters threatening Chhatttisgarh assembly election

The road connecting Orchha Abujhmad with Narayanpur district headquarters in Chhattisgarh has been blocked by felling trees on the road thereby leaving the locals high and dry.

Narayanpur: Naxalites have blocked the road connecting Orchha Abujhmad with Narayanpur district headquarters in Chhattisgarh by felling trees on the road thereby leaving the locals high and dry, officials said. It is learnt that the traffic along the road has been disrupted as it was closed by the Naxalites two days ago.

Due to the closure of the Orchha Abujhmad-Narayanpur road, the operation of passenger buses has stopped has stopped with people facing problems in daily commuting. The area is bereft of train service wde to which the problems of the people have increased further. Sources said that the Naxalites have blocked the road by felling trees on the main road near Tekanar.

The move by the Naxalites is seen as part of the boycott of the upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections. Local sources said that the Naxalites have also put up banners asking people to stay away from the upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections. The Nelanar Area Committee of Maoists is believed to have erected the banners.

Naxalites have also threatened to kill the leaders of political parties if found campaigning for the elections. Significantly, as Chhattisgarh assembly elections approach closer, Naxalites have made their presence felt in Chhattisgarh since the last three months. Naxalites have been often closing the Orchha road as part of the boycott calls.

The Naxalites recently set fire to a mobile tower near Raynar area of the state. It can be recalled that on Feb. 26 this year, a head constable of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed when Naxalites triggered a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) in Narayanpur district. The attack took place near Batum village under Orchha police station jurisdiction.
