Naxal commander denied permission of marriage, mobile; rebellion surrender

A total of nine Naxals have surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur district on Wednesday. Two of the rebels were carrying rewards of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads.

Jagdalpur: As many as nine Naxals, two of them carrying cash rewards on their heads, have surrendered on Wednesday after they were barred from using mobile by the rebellion commanders.

While speaking to media after the surrender, a 34-year-old Naxal said, "I purchased a mobile for the entertainment purpose. As soon as they (Naxal commander) came to know about any device, he asked me to submit it. When I sought permission to get married, again they replied negatively. Since then I decided to surrender in front of the security forces and want to stay with my parents."

They surrendered saying they were impressed by a rehabilitation campaign being run by the police here, the official said.

They were allegedly involved in several Naxal incidents, including the Mailwada landmine attack in March 2016, wherein seven CRPF personnel were killed, he said.

They all have been given immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 each and will be provided facilities further as per the government's surrender and rehabilitation policy, he said.
