Naxal killed in encounter on Chhattisgarh-Telangana border

An encounter broke out between the security forces and the Naxalites in the forest areas along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, in which a Naxal was killed. Weapons were recovered from the spot.

Bijapur: A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces at the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, police said. The encounter took place between Telangana Greyhounds and the Naxalites in Charla Mandal's Puttapadu forest area along the border of Telangana's Cherla and Chhattisgarh's Pamer. The security forces have recovered several Self-Loading Rifles (SLR) from the spot. Following the encounter, security forces have intensified the search operation that has been launched in the forests of Chhattisgarh and Telangana border areas.

The incident comes only a day after an improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered by security forces near Murkaraj Konda hill in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district during a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG). The IED was later successfully defused.

Last week, a Naxalite, carrying a reward of Rs five lakh was killed in an encounter between the security forces and the Naxalites in Gariaband district. The security forces had received information about the presence of around 12 to 15 armed Naxalites of the Indagaon Area Committee in Karlajhar and Nagesh hill area under Jugar police station area in Gariaband on May 2. Following which, troops of 207 Cobra and E/30 reached the spot. The Naxalite who was killed in the gunfight was involved in several major attacks, sources said.

Prior to which, Maoists carried out an IED blast killing 10 security personnel and a driver in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada on April 27. It was learnt that a DRG team was returning after conducting an anti-Naxalite operation when the blast occurred.
