Lockdown: Royal family opens coffers of Mahamaya temple for the needy

In order to provide assistance to the people affected due to the COVID induced lockdown, the royal family of Sarguja has opened the coffers of the Mahamaya temple for charity. The Mahamaya helpline has been continuously providing services to the needy since the 26th of March.

Ambikapur: The ongoing COVID-19 lockdown has affected people from all walks of life, with the labour class working on daily wages is the worst- affected as industries are shut and they have no means of livelihood.

In order to lend a helping hand to the underprivileged section of society, many people and organisations are coming forward to provide them with the ration and other necessary items. The royal family of Sarguja have also opened the coffers of the Mahamaya temple for charity for this noble cause.

Many social workers and charitable organisations are working continuously in Sarguja and it is the reason that no one stays hungry here. The royal family of Sarguja have permitted their team to use the funds stored in the coffers and the bank accounts of the Mahamaya temple to fulfill the hunger of those who need food.

The Mahamaya helpline has been continuously providing services to the needy since the 26th of March. Till date around 5,100 packets of ration and 6,5000 packets of cooked food have been distributed to the people in the area.

The money from the temple is also being used to cater to the medicinal and financial needs of the city. The Mahamaya helpline has also donated 1,500 rapid test kits to the health department, through which the COVID testing is being done frequently. The Mahamaya helpline is also preparing to begin a special service for women and will be distributing sanitary pads amongst women through its female volunteers.

Adityeshwar Singhdeo, the sole heir of Sarguja, nephew of Health and Rural minister TS Singhdeo has ordered that the amount stored in the temple treasury and bank accounts be used to fulfill the hunger and other needs of the poor. It is notable that Goddess Mahamaya is the kuldevi of the royal family, therefore the Mahamaya temple is taken care of by the royal family itself.
