Raipur: Security forces on Tuesday recovered five powerful IEDs planted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, police said.
The Improvised Explosive Devices--three weighing 10 kg each and two of five kg each---were found packed in steel tiffins hidden under the soil in the densely-forested hill near Rajpur village during a search operation, Kanker Superintendent of police Govardhan Thakur informed.
"The IEDs were hidden under bushes on the hill to target security forces," Thakur said, adding that a major tragedy was averted with the recovery.
The joint team of the 17th battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police also recovered two bundles of electric wire from the spot, he added.
The explosives were destroyed by a bomb disposal squad, the SP said.
