Surajpur: In a major relief to the residents of the parched Lulh village in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, the district administration has geared up to set up hand pumps and provide clean drinking water, following ETV Bharat's report on water woes in the region.
The acute water crisis in the area had forced the residents to walk miles to fetch drinking water or quench their thirst with water from nearby polluted streams.
The water scarcity in the area had also worsened due to the constant rise in the temperature, which had dried up all available water resources.
Following ETV Bharat's multiple reports about the issue, District Collector Deepak Soni took cognisance of the matter and directed the concerned officials to install hand pumps in the area with inmediate effect, to cope with the prevailing situation.
"We have installed hand pumps in the village. I have also directed the officials to ensure round-the-clock water supply at the earliest. Our department will take every possible step to provide clean drinking water to the locals," Soni said.
Earlier, the locals were aghast as no action was taken in the regard by the higher officials, who were reportedly indifferent to their suffering.
