Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh): Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown, lakhs of migrant left for their homes on foot, without caring of the unimaginable distance.
However, when they reached the border area of Himachal Pradesh, the administration halted the daily earners and directed to stay in a congested area without taking care of proper arrangements of basic necessities.
In a similar incident, thousands of people were stopped near Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh.
When ETV Bharat reached the spot, it found that the labourers were forced to live in a clogged place where hundreds of migrant workers were staying in a single committee hall, ignoring the Prime Minister's call to maintain social distancing to curb the novel Coronavirus pandemic.
Soon after ETV Bharat aired the ordeal of the daily wage labourers, local administration swung into action and arranged another room for the wayfarers.
Also, they made proper arrangements of food and water for the migrant workers staying at a committee hall near here.
Later, the migrant workers applauded the impact of ETV Bharat and expressed their gratitude.
A nationwide lockdown in India - the world's largest - over the coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc on thousands of migrant workers in the national capital after Prime Minister Modi announced the lockdown, which effectively put millions of daily earners out of work.
