Chhattisgarh: New procurement centres make farmers happy

Paddy procurement has been a political and social issue in Chhattisgarh and the state government is not allowing any kind of reduction in paddy procurement amid Covid-19 crisis.

Bijapur: With Bhupesh Baghel-led government starting paddy procurement from December 1 at the support price, the farmers are happy and have expressed satisfaction on the state government opening up new procurement centres.

Farmers of the Naxal affected villages in the district are elated that they could also sell their crops without any problem.


Paddy procurement has been a political and social issue in the state and the government is not allowing any kind of reduction in paddy procurement amid Covid-19 crisis.

Paddy is the major crop of Chhattisgarh and therefore it is referred to as the 'Rice Bowl' of India

A farmer, who lived in Naxal-affected areas had to travel a long distance to sell their produce. With the state government setting up 257 new procurement centres, the farmers have expressed a sense of satisfaction as this would help them in many ways.

The Chhattisgarh government has also amended the Agricultural Produce Market Act to protect the interests of the farmers and general citizens of the state, concerning the three new agricultural laws passed by the central government.


According to the state government record, over 21 lakh farmers had registered themselves for paddy procurement at the support price. The paddy harvested area by the registered farmers is 27 lakh 59 thousand 404 hectares. The area under paddy harvesting in Chhattisgarh has increased by 73 thousand 387 hectares this year.
