Raigarh:A 56-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh, on Sunday.
The Divisional forest officer Pranay Mishra said that the incident took place in the wee hours near Tendmudi village in Chhal forest range when the victim, Chamrin Bai Rathiya, went out of her house.
Mishra said that the tusker caught hold of Rathiya and smashed her on the ground with its trunk, leaving her seriously injured.
He further added that the woman was declared brought dead by the doctor and was later sent for post-mortem.
Forest officials stated that the kin of the deceased were provided an immediate relief of Rs 25,000, while the remaining compensation will be given on completion of all formalities.
Several incidents of human-elephant conflict have been reported in the past from the thick forested northern Chhattisgarh, consisting of Surguja, Surajpur, Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur, Balrampur and Koriya districts.
The region has witnessed killing of several tribals and widespread damage to houses and crops by rogue elephants.
