Raipur: After the Congress party's complete rout in the recently conducted Delhi assembly elections, the grand-old party is intent on shifting its focus to the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
According to a statement released by Chhattisgarh's Housing and Environment Minister Mohammad Akbar, it is believed that the state unit is pressing for their party's General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra representation in the Upper House of the Parliament from Chhattisgarh.
When questioned about Gandhi's nomination, for the upcoming biennial elections to be held in April, Akbar said: "We have the majority in the state and Priyanka Gandhi just needs to fill the form to win the seat. However, the decision will be ultimately taken by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi."
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), meanwhile, has made no remarks over Priyanka Gandhi's nomination.
Two of the Rajya Sabha seats from the state are falling vacant on April 2 this year.
Out of five seats, three are occupied by BJP and two by Congress.
