BJP leader murdered in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district

Asim Rai, a BJP leader and a former chairman of Pakhanjur Nagar Panchayat died after he sustained a bullet wound while he was riding a two-wheeler on Sunday evening.

Kanker (Chhattisgarh): In a tragic incident, a BJP leader was murdered in Pakhanjoor of Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday evening. Former president of Pakhanjur Nagar Panchayat Asim Rai (50) died due to bullet injury. The killing has spread panic in the area.

According to a police officer, the murder took place in Purana Bazar area of Pakhanjoor city at around 8.30 pm. Rai was on a two-wheeler at the time of the incident. He was taken aback by the attack and according to eyewitnesses, after the bullet struck him, he fell from the vehicle. Rai had to be rushed to a local hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Initial medical examination revealed that he was shot on the head. But the complete report is awaited. Rai was a former president of Pakhanjur Nagar Panchayat. he was also a councilor and vice president of Kanker district unit of the ruling BJP. The evidence found at the scene indicates that Rai was murdered due to rivalry or personal enmity.

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P is probing the murder from all angles. Officials said that in 2014, Rai had survived a similar attack by two people, who were later arrested.
