Kanker(Chattisgarh): Chattisgarh's Kanker district has seen a spike in the deaths of wild animals this year. As many as 9 bears have died in the district in the past 6 months and the forest department is neglecting the issue.

An electric connection to the borewell pump of the village's farm was hit by lightning because of which a female bear and two of her cubs were electrocuted.

On receiving the information, from the villagers, a team of forest department officials reached the spot and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

The evidence of forest department's negligence is seen in the fact that the district has witnessed the death of 9 bears in last 6 months and no action is being taken by them regarding the issue of consecutive deaths. It seems that the protection of wild animals is none of their concern.

Regardless, the department has not taken any step to stop the wild animals from getting into the populated areas. The work that was to be done under the Jamwant Yojana is not done yet. The scheme was launched for the conservation and promotion of bears in the state. Before this incident, 2 bears in Hat Kongra, 2 bears in Thalakbod and one bear in Saranda had died.
