Surguja: Twenty days after - a 40 days old carcass of - elephant found in Karanjwar, another elephant's body has been found in the forest of Ganeshpur which is 7 km away from Pratappur, the subdivision headquarters of Surajpur district in Chhattisgarh.
According to the forest department, the dead female elephant was about 15-year-old. Prima facie it appeared that the elephant died in a conflict among her group.
One of the villagers spotted the carcass of the elephant on the banks of the dam in the morning Ganeshpur forest which comes under Pratappur forest zone.
He immediately informed the forest department of Pratappur and on receiving the information of the incident, Pratappur Forest Department SDO Manoj Kumar Vishwakarma and Ranger PC Mishra reached the spot.
According to the SDO Manoj Kumar, this elephant was among a team of 18 elephants and they were visiting the area for the last two days. As per the situation of the surrounding area, it can be said that the group had a conflict due to which she died.
The forest department is preparing to conduct a post-mortem. Earlier also such incident of mutual conflict between elephant groups have been reported in the Surguja forest area.
