Chhattisgarh: Seven Naxals were killed in an encounter with the state's District Reserve Guard (DRG) in Sitagota jungle in Rajnandgaon on Saturday.

The exchange of fire occurred around 6 am in the forest near Sitagota village under Baghnadi police station area, when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation.

According to reports, seven bodies along with a huge cache of weapons, including one AK-47, have been found from the spot. Operation is still underway.

District Reserve Group is a locally raised forced, comprising of local police and surrendered Naxals, vested with the task of performing the anti-Naxal operations in the state.

Familiarity of the task force with the terrain and dense forest adds muscle to the counter insurgency operations in the Naxal-hit areas of the state.

The force has been given advanced field crafts and tactics training at Army camps of other states while some of the units have learnt basics of jungle warfare at Greyhounds (Andhra Pradesh) camp.
