Woman breastfeeds her COVID-positive infant in isolation ward

Defying the COVID guidelines, a woman in Bihar's Darbhanga district rushed to the isolation ward and breastfed her 5-month-old son who tested positive for COVID-19.

Darbhanga (Bihar): The COVID-19 pandemic has created such a fear among people that even closed ones hesitate to visit the patient. However, nothing could deter this woman from Bihar's Darbhanga district from breastfeeding her five-month-old son, who tested positive for COVID-19.

According to reports, the infant is admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) since three days.

The woman did not enter the isolation ward for the first two days. However, when she heard her son cry on the third day, she rushed to the isolation ward and breastfed him.

The hospital staff said that they tried to stop her but she did not listen to anyone and breastfed her child, defying the COVID guidelines.

The hospital staff also told the woman to keep her child in home isolation but she decided not to leave the hospital until he got cured.

Notably, a massive surge in COVID-19 cases took the count of infected people in Bihar to over 2.95 lakh on Thursday.

On Thursday, Bihar reported the highest single-day spike in positive cases - 6,133 - the highest during the second wave.
