Darbhanga: A woman had to conduct the last rites of her deceased husband in a crematorium in the Darbhanga district. Wearing a PPE kit, the wife of the deceased lit the funeral pyre of her husband as nobody from the family and friends came to assist the lady with the funeral, fearing Covid infection.
The deceased man's wife Meena Devi said that her husband Harikant Rai had come from Ashtajam. After that, he got a fever and stayed at home for four days. He tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to the Government Hospital at Rosda, Bihar. However, his health deteriorated and died on Friday.

Meena Devi said that her husband passed away on Friday due to coronavirus infection. However, no one from the family or the people of the village cooperated. She further added that her relatives also refused to take the body for cremation fearing Covid infection.

Meena Devi later contacted Kabir Seva Sansthan and asked for an ambulance to the crematorium. Later, wearing a full PPE kit, she took her husband's body to the crematorium and lit his funeral pyre. The woman also said she has problems going back home because the family is afraid of Covid infection.
