Patna: Heavy rainfall in catchment areas of river Gandak has led to the discharge of excess water from Valmikinagar barrage in West Champaran district on Tuesday, flooding parts of north Bihar.
Several rivers except the Ganges continued to flow above the danger mark and floodwaters have hit nearly 4 lakh people in eight districts, a disaster management department bulletin said.
The bulletin, however, did not mention any loss of human life or cattle.
"The discharge from Valmikinagar barrage was 3.39 lakh cusecs on July 14, which increased to 4.28 lakh cusecs on Tuesday, East Champaran DM Kapil Ashok said, adding that "it was triggered by heavy rainfall in catchment areas of Gandak river in Nepal for the past few days."
West Champaran: Diversion of Lauria - Narkatiaganj road shed
It has been raining heavily in West Champaran since Sunday. Due to this, the water level in Gandak and Sikarhana is rapidly increasing. Diversion in the Lauria - Narkatiaganj road has been washed away due to the pressure of Sikarahana water. So far three people have drowned due to the diversion breaking here.

Four to five feet of water is flowing on the road from Lauria to Narkatiaganj. At the same time, there has been a deep gap in the broken diversion. People are losing their lives in crossing it. The Ashoka Pillar of Lauria has also sunk.
Flood in Bettiah, sea-like waves
Gandak river is in spate in the district. In such a situation, the pictures that the ETV Bharat correspondent has sent from here are quite scary. The waves of the river are visible on the roads. At the same time, stadiums are submerged. Overall, the view looks like a sea. After the rise in Gandak, only water is visible all around.
Bagaha: Valley of Valmikinagar in the grip of flood
The coastal areas under Valmikinagar in Bihar, located on the Nepal border, are witnessing a severe flood. Due to the continuous rise in the water level of the Gandak river, flood water has entered many villages in the lowlands. Also, four SSB camps set up on the banks of the Gandak river have been submerged.
Gopalganj: 4 lakh cusec water released from Valmiki Nagar barrage
Due to incessant rains in the Terai region of Nepal, four and a half lakh cusecs of water has been released simultaneously from the Valmiki Nagar barrage in the Gandak river. In Gopalganj, the district administration has declared a high alert in 6 blocks affected by floods. The residents of low-lying areas have been asked to vacate their villages immediately. Sadar CO is constantly making appeals with the locals to vacate the village. Diyara residents are in panic.
Katihar: Increased water level of river Ganges and Mahananda
There are fluctuations in the water level of major rivers of Katihar district. The water level of river Ganges and Mahananda has increased. The water level of the river Kari Kosi is also in spate. Fear and trouble can be seen on the faces of the people living in the catchment area adjacent to Ganganadi in the district. Water has spread in the low lying area of the district. Due to which the problems of people have increased manifolds.
Darbhanga: Flood victims in trouble
Bagmati river continues to wreak havoc in Darbhanga district. Floodwaters have spread in several villages of Pindaruch and Hariharpur panchayats after the breaking of the security dam at Gopalpur in Kewati block. Houses, courtyards and stoves have been submerged in water. There has also been trouble related to animal feed.
Kosi, Bagmati and old Gandak boom in Khagaria
Kosi, Bagmati and old Gandak rivers in Khagaria are flowing above the danger mark. Flood-like conditions have been created in the area. The area of Sadar block of the district has been submerged due to floods. The floodwater has entered the houses. People are waiting for government help but the district administration has not come to see them till now.
16 teams of NDRF deployed in different districts
Meanwhile, 16 teams of the 9th Battalion NDRF of Bihta, Patna have been deployed in 11 districts of the state to deal with the floods in Bihar. Three teams of NDRF have been deployed in Gopalganj district, two teams each in Betia, Motihari and Saran and one team each in the remaining other districts. All the teams are equipped with state of the art flood rescue equipment, cutting tools and equipment, communication equipment, medical first response kit, deep diving set, inflatable lighting towers, etc.
