Sedition case filed against 49 celebrities for writing letter to PM Modi on mob lynching

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha has filed a sedition case against 49 famous personalities who wrote a letter to PM Modi over incidents of lynching in the country. The case will be heard on August 3.

Muzaffarpur: A sedition case has been registered against 49 famous personalities who wrote a letter to PM Modi over the growing incidents of mob lynching in Muzaffarpur's Civil court on July 27.

The case was filed by advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Surya Kant Tiwari.

He alleged that the letter was written with the intention to spoil the nation's image and instigate communal violence.

Chief Judicial Magistrate has accepted the petition and the case will be heard on August 3.

As many as 49 celebrities from different fields including singer Shubha Mudgal, actor Konkona Sen Sharma and filmmakers Shyam Benegal, Anurag Kashyap and Mani Ratnam, among others, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over incidents of lynching in the country.

In the letter dated July 23, the celebrities said that "exemplary punishment" should be meted out "swiftly and surely" in such cases.

The celebrities concluded the letter saying, "We hope our suggestions will be taken in the spirit that they are meant - as Indians genuinely concerned with, and anxious about, the fate of our nation."

Body:मुजफ्फरपुर के मुख्य न्यायिक दंडाधिकारी सूर्य कांत तिवारी के अदालत में अधिवक्ता सुधीर कुमार ओझा ने अभिनेत्री अर्पणा सेन , सौमित्र चटर्जी , श्याम बेनेगल समेत 49 फ़िल्म कलाकारों के खिलाफ देशद्रोह का मुकदमा दर्ज कराते हुए आरोप लगाया है कि इन लोगो के द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री को लिखे गए पत्र से न बल्कि देश की छबि विदेशों में खराब हुई है बल्कि अलगावादियों से मिलकर देश को खंड खंड विखंडित करने का काम किया गया है है । न्यायालय ने मामले को स्वीकार करते हुए सुनवाई की तारीख 3 अगस्त को मुकर्रर की है ।

Conclusion:परिवादी अधिवक्ता सुधीर ओझा ने जुर्म दफा 124 क , 153 ख , 160 ,290 ,297 एवं 504 आईपीसी धारा के तहत देशद्रोह का मुकदमा दर्ज कराते हुए न्यायालय से 49 फ़िल्मकालकरो पर आपराधिक मामले चलाने की मांग की है।
