New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to list on May 8 a plea by Uma Krishnaiah, the wife of slain IAS officer G Krishnaiah's against the premature release of Bihar politician Anand Mohan from the jail by the Nitish Kumar led government, sources said on Monday. Uma had on Sunday moved a plea in the SC challenging the premature release of Anand Mohan in the murder of then Gopalganj DM G. Krishnaiah in 1994.

Mohan, who was convicted by the court in the murder of G Krishnaiah was released from Saharsa jail on the morning of Apr. 27 after the Nitish Kumar led Bihar government amended the prison rules. The Nitish Kumar government amended the particular clause related to the murder of a civil servant paving the way for release of Anand Mohan.

Uma Krishnaiah, the slain G Krishnaiah's wife has contended that the sentence of life imprisonment awarded to the gangster-turned- politician Anand Mohan meant incarceration for his entire natural course of life and questioned how the convict could be released prematurely. In her plea before the SC, Uma said that the “well-settled principle of law that Imprisonment for life means full natural course of Life and cannot be mechanically interpreted to be 14 years”.

“It means that imprisonment for life lasts until the last breath,” she said in her petition. The case is related to the murder of then Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah, who hailed from Telangana. Krishnaiah was beaten to death by a mob in 1994 at the behest of Anand Mohan when his vehicle allegedly tried to overtake the funeral procession of gangster Chhotan Shukla in Muzaffarpur district.

Mohan, then an MLA, was leading the funeral procession of Shukla.
