Left unattended at a COVID care ward at Patna NMCH for last two days, the bodies of two patients were finally removed after a video of the same went viral on social media. While authorities defended themselves by saying that the bodies were removed on time, the man who made the viral video claimed the bodies were still lying beside the beds of patients who were under treatment.

Patna (Bihar): The rotting bodies of two COVID-19 patients were removed from a ward in Patna's NMCH, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

"The dead bodies were not being removed even after two days of lying there. I waited but when they began to rot and stink, I thought it was not safe. But I received no response and was thus forced to make a video," said Mani Kumar, who made the viral video at NMCH hospital.

"After the video went viral, authorities showed activity and they came to check everything, Kumar said.

He further informed that the bodies were removed on Thursday evening.

The two bodies reportedly lied on the hospital bench for two days until the arrival of their post-mortem reports. Also, there were no vehicles to carry their bodies out of the COVID care hospital.

The deceased were identified to be residents of Khajekalan and Rajabazar.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav termed the situation 'terrible'.

"Look at the terrible situation. Two dead bodies have been lying in the COVID ward for the last two days while healthy patients are given beds in the same ward and their family members are looking after them. Also, there are no doctors, nurses or ventilators at the hospital as they have been sent to the CM's residence because there are 60 positive patients there," he wrote on his Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, NMCH Nodal Corona Officer Ajay Kumar Sinha said the authorities could not contact the family immediately.

"We usually call the family and take their permission before disposal of a dead body. Since the family had left when he died, and we could not contact them, the body was not removed."

"The death took place day before yesterday and the body was removed yesterday. There is no lack in the quality of treatment," he added.

Meanwhile, there are reports that 5 COVID-19 patients passed away at NMCH within a span of 24 hours.
