Bihar: Several bogies of North East Superfast Express derail in Buxar

The Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express train left the Delhi's Anand Vihar terminal at 7.40 and was scheduled to arrive at its destination - Kamakhya which is about six kilometres from Guwahati, 33 hours later. The train derailed near Raghunathpur railway station which is not among the scheduled stoppage of trains.

At least six bogies of  the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express (Train No 2506) derailed at Raghunathpur railway station in Bihar's Buxer on Wednesday night, officials said.   The derailment occurred at 9.53 pm. From the first visuals coming from the accident site showed at least two AC III Tier coaches as having toppled over while four other coaches jumping the tracks.

Buxar: At least six bogies of the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express (Train No 2506) derailed at Raghunathpur railway station in Bihar's Buxer on Wednesday night, officials said.

The derailment occurred at 9.53 pm. From the first visuals coming from the accident site showed at least two AC III Tier coaches as having toppled over while four other coaches jumping the tracks.

Soon after the incident, rescue teams and locals rushed to the spot though the concerned RPF post in-charge has not confirmed any casualties yet. The train was going from New Delhi to Tinsukia.

Earlier in the day, the 23-coach 12506 North East Express departed from the Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi at 7.40 am. The train's scheduled run time to reach Kamakhya, which is about six kilometres from Guwahati, is about 33 hours.

It is learnt the site of derailment is in the vicinity of Raghunathpur station where the train does not have a scheduled stoppage.

The North East Frontier Railways have setup helplines to assist the passengers and relatives of passengers who were on the derailed train. Several trains have been diverted in Danapur Division.

Train derailment of this sort brings back the haunting memories of the Balasore train mishap earlier this year in which around 300 people lost their lives. The incident took place on June 2 when three trains collided in Odisha's Balasore district. Such was the intensity of the impact that bodies of several passengers were mangled beyond recognition so much that even nearly five months after the incident, 28 bodies were still unidentified. The bodies were handed over to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the cremation on Tuesday.
