Kumar went on to claim that questions were not asked about crimes in Bihar before 2005, when the RJD was in power in the state.

Escalating his attack on the media, Kumar said that by asking such questions, they must not demoralise the police.

Youth wing of RJD was quick to mock at JD(U) supremo's reaction on law and order and wrote on Twitter, "Why are you shouting? What is the pain that you are hiding?"

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also slammed Nitish Kumar and wrote, "Heartbreaking breaking news...CM Nitish Kumar has surrendered in front of criminals. Instead, he is asking journalists to tell him who has done the crime and why they do so."

Rupesh Kumar Singh (40) was sprayed with bullets while he was inside his SUV waiting for the gates of his residence in Punaichak locality in the city to open after his return from office on Tuesday evening.

There was an outpouring of grief for Singh, survived by wife and two children less than 10 years of age, who was known to be sociable and, by virtue of his job profile, close to many powerful politicians and bureaucrats in the state.
