Raxaul (Bihar): Nepal once again attempted to stoke up issues at the border, as it put up a board on the bridge connecting Birgunj with Bihar's Raxaul, claiming it to be its land. However, after the intervention of the SSB, the board was later removed.
According to reports, the Nepal Police yesterday put up the board on the Maitreyi (friendship) Bridge connecting Birgunj to Raxaul in Bihar's East Champaran district. The board claimed that Nepal's territory began from that point onwards, despite the fact that the bridge forms the no man's land between both the neighbours.
The board claimed that the limits of Birgunj town in Nepal's Parsa district started from the point. The board also had the phone number of the local Nepal authorities.
However, after local Bihar residents started opposing Nepal's move, SSB jawans reached the spot and tried to reason with the Nepal police.
According to reports, it was only after the SSB adopted a tough stance that the board was removed from the no man's land.

Pertinently, this is not the first time that Nepal has given rise to tension along the border with India. According to reports, it had performed the final rites of deceased COVID-19 victims in the no man's land.
Earlier in June, Nepal had put up a temporary camp and watchtower built in Panthola village at the Indian border. The structure was set up at the other side of Sarisawa river amid the corona-induced lockdown at the Indian territory which sparked a controversy.
After rounds of military talk between SSB and Nepali forces, the structures were eventually removed.
In the same month, an Indian was killed and two others injured in firing by Nepal police personnel along the India-Nepal border in Bihar's Sitamarhi district.
Officials said the locals had a confrontation with the Nepal Police over accessing an area near the international border and later, a scuffle took place between the two sides resulting in the firing.
