New Delhi: Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) chief Upendra Kushwaha has said 'Mahagathbandhan' constituent parties have requested the Election Commission (EC) to hold polls in Bihar ensuring that voters do not get infected by a coronavirus and the elections remain "free and fair".
Kushwaha, interacting with the ETV Bharat here, said, "We have urged the EC to ensure these points as coronavirus still remains a major health concern".
"It's up to the Election Commission now as we have suggested what we had to," he said, stressing his point of ensuring the safety of voters from coronavirus infection and keeping the polls free and fair.
On being asked if they had also asked the EC to defer the polls in view of the coronavirus crisis, he said no they did not make any such suggestion to the EC.
Talking about the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), the RLSP chief said it was united and would fight elections unitedly.
Assembly elections in Bihar are due in October-November this year.
