Amid differences with the JD(U), alliance partner Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections. The BJP, JD(U) and the LJP are allies in Bihar, but an increasing rift between the two regional parties in the state has made the task of seat-distribution among them a complex exercise with the BJP seen to be working to smoothen the ties among its partners.

New Delhi: Amid his party's differences with the JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Chirag Paswan on Thursday chaired a meeting with senior party leaders to review its strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Bihar LJP President and MP Prince Raj Paswan said that preparations are in full swing and a final list of 149 candidates will be handed over to Chirag Paswan soon.

The BJP, Janata Dal (United) and the LJP are allies in Bihar, but an increasing rift between the two regional parties in the state has made the task of seat-distribution among them a complex exercise with the BJP seen to be working to smoothen the ties among its partners.

"LJP will support the party which puts the interest of Bihar first. During 'Bihar First' yatra - which was launched with the promise of pulling the state out of its long history of backwardness, people came forward with their problems and such issues will be raised during talks with the government," Prince Raj Paswan said.

The LJP had fought on 42 of the state's 243 seats in the 2015 Bihar assembly polls when Kumar was leading the opposition's grand alliance.

Paswan has already said that he will back the BJP in whatever decision it takes. However, the seat-sharing agreement is likely to form fresh between the two.

"We will fight from 42 seats while staying with the NDA. There is no question of settling anything less than that," Raj Paswan said.

The Bihar Assembly polls are likely to be held this year in October-November but the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to make any official announcement in this regard.
