Cybercrime: Thousands of rupees siphoned off in Bihar

As the country's economy moves towards a cashless system, cyberattacks on the financial system are also on the rise in India.

Banka (Katoria): The cases of cybercrime in Bihar are increasing day by day and once again, two cases of fraud have been reported from Banka. The first incident happened to Gur Mohan Yadav, resident of Ranibandh village of Domuhan Panchayat and the second incident happened to Kamlesh Yadav of Kaithakura village.

Case 1:

Gur Mohan Yadav, a resident of Ranibandh village of Domuhan Panchayat under Banka police station, has given a written application in Katoria police station alleging fraud by Kamlesh Yadav of Kaithakura village who has taken out one lakh 70 thousand rupees from the former's account by taking his bank passbook and ATM under a conspiracy.

The victim, Yadav told that when he returned home from Chandigarh in lockdown, Kamlesh Yadav took his bank passbook, ATM and password after luring him to get Rs 2,000 per month under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Yojana. Then, one lakh 70 thousand rupees were transferred from Moradabad to this account which Kamlesh took out. But, the police has blamed Guru Mohan Yadav for this.

Gur Mohan Yadav has filed an application in the Katoria police station and has sought the appropriate legal action.

Case 2:

The second case of cybercrime where 63 thousand 798 rupees were siphoned off, happened with Sunil Kumar, the headmaster of Katoria Adarsh Middle School.

Cyberthugs pretended to be senior SBI branch manager and got personal information related to the account. They then started online shopping and asked Sunil for OTPs five times.

An unsuspected Sunil kept telling them until he realized what was happening. In relation to this incident, the victim has given a written application against unknown criminals at the police station.
