Saharsa: Ghumour Holi, celebrated in Bangaon of Kahara block, eight kilometers west of Saharsa district headquarters of Bihar, has its own distinct identity. The famous Ghumour Holi of Bangaon is known not only in Bihar but also in the entire country for its special style.
The people of Bangaon play Dhura-Dhur game a day before Holi. People of all castes and communities of the village participate in it. People gather and sing songs and walk around the entire village, dancing to the tunes of songs. The march is completed by reaching the famous Bhagwati place of the village.
Mud and dust Holi
During this festival, villagers throw mud at each other and blow dust on the roads. People bathe and recite prayers after playing Holi in the day. Holika Dahan is done in the evening. Then the next day Holi is played with color and gulal.
Tradition is hundreds of years old
It is believed that this tradition has been going on since the time of Lord Shri Krishna. In the 18th century, the famous saint Lakshminath Gausai Babaji had decided that Holi will be celebrated in this way in the memory of Shri Krishna. This tradition, established hundreds of years ago, has been kept alive by the villagers.

Holi of Bangaon, which has the largest population of Bihar and has three panchayats, has a different cultural identity in the country. There is no discrimination in this Holi. People of every caste and religion celebrate it with great enthusiasm and fervour. Apart from the people of the village, people from many nearby villages also come here and enjoy Holi.
Today is the last day of Fagun. That is why this Holi of Bangaon is called Fagua, whereas in other places the Holi which will be held tomorrow will be called Chaitavar.
