Arrested youth marries girlfriend on court premises in Bihar

In a strange wedding, the groom married his girlfriend wearing handcuffs and then left for jail after completing the rituals.

Sitamarhi: A youth, who was imprisoned for allegedly kidnapping his girlfriend, married her following court order on Saturday. The marriage rituals were completed in a temple on the court premises with handcuffs on the youth's hands.

The youth, Raja (28) a resident of Narkatiaganj has been lodged in Sitamarhi jail for the last six months in connection with the kidnapping case of his girlfriend, Archana (23). Raja and Archana, a resident of Bairagania in Sitamarhi district loved each other and had eloped. Archana's father filed a kidnapping case against the youth following which, police sent Raja to jail. Since then, he has been lodged in Sitamarhi jail.

Today, on the orders of Sitamarhi court, Raja married Archana at a Shiva temple on the premises of the court. The girl's family members said that both had expressed desire to get married which was accepted by the court. The families of both Raja and Archana gave their consent to the marriage. Raja, who was still in police custody completed the wedding rituals while family members of both the sides were witnesses of the marriage. Relatives said Raja applied vermillion on Archana's forehead and vowed to live with each other for the next seven births.

However, after the wedding rituals were completed, Raja returned to Sitamarhi jail. It is to be seen when Raja is acquitted after marriage. The next hearing of the entire case will be held on June 19.

Family members said Archana, daughter of Amarnath Mahato and Raja were having an affair since 2016. Both eloped on November 4, 2022. On the same day, the girl's family filed a case of kidnapping against Raja. The police found the duo from Bairangia police station area and Raja was sent to jail on November 6.
