Banka: Amid lockdown, heartbreaking stories continue to emerge from across the country about the financial crisis being faced by daily wage labourers.
A couple in Banka of Bihar gave their newborn twins to midwife after facing poverty amid lockdown.
Yashodha and Sachin Yadav, a resident of Gaura Manjhalidih village were upset with the birth of twin girls as they are already parents of three girl children.
The couple were not able to bear the expenses of ration and daily need of family due to lockdown. They were managing food and ration with their savings and loan.
Yashodha was worried about how to feed the family after giving birth to twins on May 3.
The couple handed over the infant babies to village midwife, who helped in delivering in their house.
Father of the newborn twins Sachin said: “We are already poor, and now in lockdown we are finding difficulty in managing rations for two. How will I take care of five kids? Therefore, I handed over the babies to the midwife.”
“I was very upset with the birth of twins, I was in a hope of having baby boy after three daughters. My husband looks after the house expenses by working as labourer. Amid lockdown, he is not getting work,“ Yashodha said.
Reportedly, the Childline Director Chiranjeevi immediately went to the couples house after getting the information.
Police personnel of Anandpur OP and Childline director convinced couple to take their kids back and even assured to provide help.
Chandan block BDO Durgashankar said: “Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and ration card and other welfare schemes will be given on the basis of priority.”
After getting assurance, Yashodha said: “What to do if there is a lockdown? Our fault is that we are poor. How long we can see their kids suffering from hunger?”
