The appointments have been made by Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, days after a heated Congress Working Committee meeting where 23 dissenters were allegedly questioned over their letter to Sonia calling for a total revamp of the party.

Meanwhile, the Grand Old Party revoked the suspension of former Union Minister Shakeel Ahmed. Ahmed was suspended from the Congress after he contested as an independent candidate against UPA candidate in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections last year. An experienced leader, Ahmed has held organisational posts in Bihar and at AICC.

Assembly elections in Bihar are likely to be held in October-November before the end of the term of present assembly. The Election Commission has not yet taken a final call on poll dates in Bihar due to coronavirus pandemic.
