Bihar's delicacy 'Silao Khaja' now available online

Silao Khaja, a multi-layered, crispy sweet and a conventional Bihari dessert is now available for online ordering through an application named Srikali Shah and can be delivered across countries. The famous delicacy has received several awards in different exhibitions and sweet festivals across the globe.

Bihar: The traditional delicacy of Bihar's Nalanda district, 'Silao Khaja' is now available for online ordering through an application named Srikali Shah and can be delivered across countries.

Khaja, a multi-layered, crispy sweet and a conventional Bihari dessert is very popular among people owing to its taste and appearance which is attributed to the local climate.

The famous sweet is also a ceremonial part of weddings across all castes and faiths. The Geographical Indication (GI) tag has also been granted to Silao Khaja.

Khaja comprises of very thin dough sheets placed over one another. The ingredients mixed in the sheets are wheat flour, sugar, maida, ghee, cardamom, and aniseeds.

According to local shopkeepers, the tradition of making Khaja in Silao has been there for hundreds of years. Businessman Sandeep Lal said that he has created an app named 'Srikali Shah' to provide the sweet to people living abroad.

In the tourist season, around two to three tons of Khaja is consumed on a regular basis in Silao. The delicacy has also received an Award in the International Sweet Festival held in Mauritius. Apart from this, Khaja has also received awards in exhibitions held in Delhi, Patna, Jaipur, and Prayagraj.
