Bihar: Two wounded in leopard attack in Valmiki Tiger Reserve

Two villagers were injured by a leopard as it wandered into their village from Valmiki Tiger Reserve in West Champaran district of Bihar. The animal also killed two goats as villagers tried to drive it out.

Champaran: Two people were injured and as many goats killed by a leopard as it wandered into a village from Valmiki Tiger Reserve in Bihar, official sources said.

They said two villagers were attacked and injured by the leopard which was mistaken to be a cat by the injured people.

"I saw something under my cot and as I pulled it, the leopard attacked me," said Brijesh, who was wounded in the attack.

Another man attacked by the leopard said he thought it was a cat and as he tried to push it out of his house, the leopard attacked him. There was chaos in the village as people tried to drive out the animal.

The two injured men had returned to their village after a 14-day period of quarantine a few days ago.

It was, however, tranquillized by forest department officials of the district and taken to the forest.
