New Delhi: Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar Akhilesh Prasad Singh has expressed concern over the condition of labourers stranded in various parts of the country due to lockdown and said they should be brought back to the state.

Speaking to the ETV Bharat over phone here, the Congress leader said that claims of providing all possible help to the labourers were far from reality as most of them were not getting even basic facilities like food and drinking water.

"They should be brought to Bihar. After screening for coronavirus, healthy people could be sent to their respective homes and the rest could be taken to hospitals for treatment," he said, adding that the state government has failed to live upto their expectations during the crisis.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting through video conferencing with chief ministers of all states wherein Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar raised the issue of students and others from the state stranded in various parts of the country.

Modi, however, expressed helplessness on the issue and said it could be possible only after provisions of the national lockdown were amended.

Meanwhile, 25 districts of Bihar are affected by coronavirus with 69 new cases being reported in past 24 hours.
