Bihar Police's probe into Sushant's case had made good progress, says IPS officer

Upon his return to Patna late Friday night, Tiwari, who is posted here as the SP City (East), however, declined to spill the beans on the findings of the investigation carried out by his team asserting that doing so would be "inappropriate".

"I had duly informed my counterparts in Mumbai about my official tour. I had sought accommodation and requisitioned a vehicle. Since my visit and its purpose were well known, people from the media approached me with their questions at the airport itself to which I replied," Tiwari told reporters upon his arrival at the airport here.

The IPS officer, who was released from quarantine on Friday, remarked with disappointment that despite intimation about his tour "nobody came to the airport to receive me".

"Nonetheless, I checked into a guest house and then went out to meet members of my team, who had been in the city since July 27, and take stock of the investigation. At around 10 pm, I received a call from BMC authorities who spoke about the need to quarantine me. As a law-abiding person, I returned to the guest house and extended my cooperation," Tiwari said.

"It is for all to see that a few visitors to Mumbai, where so many people reach every day, are quarantined in this fashion. Even my four subordinates were not placed in quarantine. Now, try to make sense of that," he remarked wryly.

"But I must add, our investigation had progressed at great speed in 10 days and had moved in the right direction," he concluded.

Bihar cop probing Sushant Singh Rajput death case reaches Patna

Patna: Bihar IPS officer Vinay Tiwari, who was in Mumbai to investigate in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, returned to Patna after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities exempted him from the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Four other officers of Bihar Police had returned to Patna on Thursday.

"I would say that I was not quarantined, but the investigation was quarantined. The investigation of the Bihar Police was obstructed," Patna Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinay Tiwari, who had come to Mumbai to probe the matter, told reporters here.

Earlier, a team of four officers of Bihar Police probing the case in Mumbai reached Inspector General Central office in Patna to submit a report on the case on Thursday. The officers refrained from speaking about the findings of the case.

One of the police officers, on arrival at the Bihar airport, said that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) never called to support us but have received great support from their seniors.

"Now when the case is with CBI, we will be sharing our findings with them," a police officer said.

Tiwari was quarantined in Mumbai by the BMC, which it claimed was in accordance with the guidelines issued by the state government to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey had yesterday accused Mumbai Police of being unprofessional on their action of quarantining Tiwari and said that he was being kept as if he was arrested

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case in the matter after the central government accepted the Bihar government's recommendation for a CBI probe in the matter.

An FIR was earlier filed by the Patna Police against Rhea Chakraborty on a complaint filed by KK Singh, father of the late actor, under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including abetment of suicide.

Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14, after which Mumbai Police had registered a case and is investigating the matter.
