Patna: An MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janardan Singh Sigriwal was attacked by flood victims when he went to assess the damage in Bihar, sources said.
Many areas in Siwan district - Lakri Nabigabj and Basantpur block - were the worst affected as rivers continue to flow above the danger mark.
The lawmaker from Maharajganj was visiting Lakri Nabigabj when residents staged a violent protest. The angry villagers attacked Sigiriwal and hurled chairs at him. Those who accompanied him were also thrashed, reports said.

Villagers said the MP's visit to flood-affected areas was just a formality as none of the political leaders had helped them in these trying times. Local sources said, some villagers even approached Sigriwal some time back for help, but nothing was coming.
The flood situation in Bihar remained grim on Sunday as 87,000 more people were affected raising the number to 74 lakhs. Twenty-three people were killed in the floods, according to rescue services.

"The deluge has swamped 1,232 panchayat areas in 125 blocks of 16 districts," the bulletin said.
Further, Darbhanga reported the highest number of flood-related fatalities at nine, followed by six in Muzaffarpur, four in West Champaran and two each in Saran and Siwan districts, it said.
