Gopalganj (Bihar): Flooded Gandak river in Bihar has cut off several villages in the district of Gopalgang district, reports said. Khap Maqsoodpur village is one of them where about 300 houses have been surrounded by floodwaters. The area was lashed by heavy showers in the past few days.
Local people said no help is coming from the government and thousands of families are without food and shelter and awaiting assistance, according to reports. When the ETV Bharat team reached out to locals in Khap Maqsoodpur village, the people of Diara area narrated their ordeal and how life has turned hell due to flooding in the last four days. The situation is such that people here have become 'imprisoned' in their own village, the local people said.
"Floodwaters have entered the house. I am cooking food by placing the stove on the chair. There is no place where we can go and live. So far no help has been received from the administration or the village head," said Manti Devi, a village resident.

Despite 300 houses being completely submerged in the village, not a single public representative reached the place so far. None came forward to take care of the villagers, the locals said.
Sadly, the villagers do not even have basic facilities in the area, and are looking forward to the administration for clean water, boats, food, tarpaulins and other materials. The people here have become homeless due to the flood water released from the Valmiki barrage, reports said.
"I am taking my sick grandson to the hospital on a cot over a distance of four kilometres. As there are no boats, he was put onto a cot and taken for treatment. All the government money is being shared among the chief, the sarpanch and the leaders. We are not getting any help," said Sudama Prasad, a villager.

Villages in the Diara area got flooded after water was released from the Balmiki Nagar barrage following incessant rains in Nepal's Terai areas. The heavy rains have led to people being confined in their homes. At the same time, fear of snakes and scorpions is also haunting the people. Due to the rise in the water level in the river, connectivity to several villages with the district headquarters has been cut. Floodwaters have also submerged various other low-lying villages such as Jagiri Tola, Malahi Tola and Rampur in Sadar block.
