Bettiah (Bihar): Indeed, the athletes of our country who bring laurels to the nation deserve great respect and recognition. But, there are some pearls of our nation who are still struggling to get recognised. Here is the story of two footballers of Narkatiaganj village in West Champaran who brought several awards for the nation, are now forced to live in a hut.
The Indian football team's U-14 captain Soni Kumari and her younger sister Ashu Kumari who is a national level football player have dreamt of having a beautiful house, but the ignorance from the government, as well as the district administration, shattered their dream. Their achievements were faded into the shack in which they are forced to live.
Belonging to a Dalit family, Soni also got elected as an election icon for Nagar Panchayat.
Soni Kumari has represented India at the International level, while Ashu Kumari had played football at Manipur, Imphal, Banaras, Dibrugarh, Gwalior Universities at the national level. They have won several national and international awards in football. Their father runs a tanga in Nepal. After losing all hope, Soni got married leaving Ashu with their mother in a hut.
"The district administration only gives assurance to these sisters. But, they haven't arranged for a house for them. They are now tired of pleading the government. No one even bothered about their problems, who brought so much fame to the nation," Soni and Ashu's instructor Sunil Verma said.
