Patna: A total of 79 people who were infected with COVID-19 after attending a wedding in Paliganj sub-division of Patna district have recovered and returned to their homes on Tuesday, according to health department officials.
The wedding ceremony appeared to have set off the biggest infection chain in Bihar so far, according to health officials.
More than 79 people had tested positive in about 55 km from the state capital, out of over 379 who have been tested upon contact tracing. Fifteen of his relatives who attended the wedding tested positive for the contagion and apparently infected others.
The COVID-19 super spreader wedding triggered panic in the area and locals alleged that the guidelines were not followed by the people and the administration also did not take precautions.

The groom, who reportedly had a high fever during the wedding, died two days later. He was a software engineer who travelled home in the last week of May from his place of work in the North Indian city of Gurugram, and was cremated without being tested for the novel coronavirus.
As a measure to contain the spread of the disease, a special camp was set up at the village where the marriage took place on June 24-26 during which samples of 379 people were collected. Of them, 79 tested positive, the officials added.
The district administration later said there was negligence and violation of guidelines of COVID-19 by the family that went ahead with the wedding despite the groom showing symptoms of the disease.
