Chirang (Assam): Indian Army on Wednesday captured a woman identified as Rishima Narzari, from an interior village in Chirang district, after they allegedly recovered a hand-made pistol from her cowshed. She was then handed over to the Shantipur police station, with officers claiming that she was a member of armed separatist outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).
Locals, however, claim that the woman's arrest was illegal and a part of a larger conspiracy, planned by the Police and Army officers.
Demanding immediate release of 'innocent' Rishima, the villagers staged a protest outside Narzari's house against the Indian Army and Assam Police.
"She is a simple woman who somehow manages to live life by working as a daily wage labourer. She doesn't have any knowledge about weapons or any related topic," a local said.
"Her children, both minor, are standing guard outside her cell. It is against humanity. She has nobody in her life," he added.
As per reports, Rishima's husband disappeared three years ago while he went to collect firewood from the nearby forest area. The family did not receive any information about his whereabouts since then.
Security forces, reportedly, had earlier arrested the headman of the village, as they could not find the person they were actually looking for. However, he was released after the villagers pressurised the forces to spare the innocent.
The villagers call Rishima's arrest as another such case of conspiracy where an innocent has been arrested for no apparent reason.
