Tinsukia (Assam): Two patients admitted at the Tinsukia Civil Hospital in Tinsukia district of Assam were accommodated in a room where they were forced to share space with a dead body.
While the family members of the patients alleged that both the men were kept alongside a dead body for three days, NC Mahanta, Superintendent of Tinsukia Civil hospital maintains that the patients weren't made to share the room with a deceased man for three days, but only a few hours.
Mahanta, however, admitted that the hospital authorities were at fault, "I accept that it is inhuman on our part to keep these people with a dead body."
Refuting allegations that the patients were kept in a morgue for three days despite being alive, Mahanta said, "The patients were kept in the male medical ward, not the morgue, as is being reported by several media organisations.
"The deceased in question died in the morning at 9 am after meeting with an accident. His body was brought to us by the GRP and since then we have been in touch with them so that we can hand over the dead body to the GRP," added Mahanta.

Meanwhile, a family member of one of the two patients accused the hospital authorities of not attending the patients.
"We brought him to this hospital around three days ago, but he didn't receive any treatment in the hospital. Not a single doctor came to attend the patient. He was lying there with a dead body for the past three days. We don't want this to happen to our patient. If they can't take care of a patient they should refer them to other hospitals," he added.
