Agartala: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday took a tough stand and warned the "evil powers" of strict punitive measures for their persistent efforts to disrupt the peace and tranquillity of the state. Speaking about the recent episode of violence triggered across the state at the beginning of the month, Deb said that the police had been investigating all the cases related to the violence and strict action would be taken against the accused after the probe.
"In the recent past, especially in six selected districts of the state, the number of incidents related to political violence came to our notice. The state government is taking these incidents seriously and 42 cases were registered with different police stations. The CPM has lodged 25 FIRs, the BJP lodged seven FIRs, eight cases were taken suo moto and rest of the two cases were filed by editors of two news organisations," Deb told the House during his address on the first day of the Assembly session.
According to Deb, in all, 42 cases were registered and investigation is underway by police in 41 cases whereas one case has been handed over to the Crime Branch given the gravity of the incident. “As many as 18 persons were arrested in connection with the cases and 95 persons were served notices under CRPC Section 41 (A). I am assuring the House, in all the cases, stringent action will be taken after the investigation”, he assured.
The Chief Minister also suspected that some vested interests became active when they saw the law and order situation was improving gradually across the state.
“Any act of violence with the intention to impede the state’s growth is unexpected and should be dealt with iron hands," Deb added. He said attempts are being made to show Tripura in a bad light. He appealed to everyone not to tarnish the image of Tripura.
