Agartala: The Tripura government may constitute a High Power Commission (HPC) to assess the losses incurred by people, who had been internally displaced due to the decade-long insurgency in Tripura. The Commission will be chaired by a High Court retired judge.

"The Tripura government will consider the issue and if it is found viable, the government may constitute the committee", said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
He was responding to a Private Member Resolution tabled by BJP MLA Asish Kumar Saha.

Earlier, speaking on the issue, MLA Saha said, "For the last four-and-a-half decade insurgency had been hovering over Tripura and a cloud of uncertainty became a hurdle in the path of development. Targeting the Left, Saha said the Left legislators staged a walkout from the House to evade the situation during the initial proceedings and did not rejoin. Saha also raised a demand of announcing a special package for the unfortunate people, who were displaced by the prolonged insurgent movement."

On the insurgent revival, Deb said, "Regrouping bids of insurgent groups in Tripura would never see success as all doors of revival are already closed down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. There is nothing to worry about. We have all the intelligence inputs. And, I want to make it clear that the militant groups, which are trying to recruit new cadres, are ending up facing rejections. Their regrouping bid is largely hit by the financial constraints and if they succeed in convincing some youth in the first place, the new recruits flee from the training camps in search of a better future."

Responding to Saha, Deb said, "After Modi took charge in 2014 many insurgent groups have laid down arms and opened channels of talk. There is no doubt that solutions for such problems emerge through dialogue. Stern actions can never resolve such sensitive issues. In Tripura, stray groups are in search of scope to lay down arms. They have understood, the extortion business in the name of insurgency is not going to flourish anymore."

Deb also told the House that efforts were afoot to bring down the walls of disparity. Economic and social disparities are some of the key reasons behind insurgency and the government is firm to eradicate those lines. More schools are being opened and the remote areas are getting enough attention from the government. All the basic amenities are being provided to the people," Deb told the House.
