Agartala: In a significant success of Tripura police against leftover insurgent groups, three hardcore NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) militants laid down arms before police on Thursday.
Tripura police attributed the success to its relentless efforts against the proscribed militant groups still active in parts of Tripura.
The surrendered rebels have been identified as Rupadhan Debbarma Ruphai (30), Amush Tripura alias Sengkhari (32) and Dilip Debbarma aka Momphal (43).
During preliminary interrogation, police sources said, it has been revealed that these three listed militants joined the group in the early part of 2018 and underwent training in Myanmar and Bangladesh training camps of NLFT(BM).
"Tripura Police is happy to announce that three listed NLFT(BM) extremists fled from Bangladesh hideout and surrendered to Tripura Police at Special Branch headquarters on Thursday. They have deposited one Pistol with 5 live rounds and extortion notices of NLFT (BM) extremist group", an official said.
"They were assigned to collect extortion money from the interior bordering areas of the State. Witnessing the hardship of jungle life and ill behaviour of their so-called leaders, who are enjoying luxurious life in Bangladesh and Myanmar, and also the all outdrive of Tripura Police with TSR and other Central Forces against insurgency, they got frustrated and have chosen the path of joining mainstream life", the official added.
