Guwahati: A research scholar of Gauhati University has been arrested in connection with the recent blast in the city.
Sanjib Talukdar, who was the president of Gauhati University's Post-Graduate Students' Union for the session of 2016-17, was arrested on Monday from Baihata Chariali of Kamrup district.
City Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said that Talukdar was in constant touch with ULFA(I) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah for last two years. He worked as an overground member of the outfit.
"The student leader helped ULFA(I) cadre Bijay Asom in carrying out the survey at the blast site on April 27", added Kumar. Bijay Asom is one of the accused arrested in the case. On Tuesday, the court ordered six-day police custody for Talukdar.
It may be noted that Sanjib Talukdar has been actively associated with various social organisations.
He is a promising writer among the intellectual arena of the state and also worked for some leading newspapers and magazines for a short span of time.
